01SEP08 - Due to the excessively hard water here in Corpus, Jen and I have wanted to install a water softener for a very long time but some other project always seemed to get a higher priority. Then last year after breaking in to some main lines, the water department had an E. Coli incident, and their knee-jerk reaction was increase the amount of chlorination. It wasn't just a little increase however, it was a LOT and the chlorine smell from the water here at the house became intolerable.

So, after becoming acquainted with Austin Pump & Supply while installing the new well hardware recently and finding out that they also sell water softeners and filters, we spent some more money there. Specifically, a softener, carbon filter tank, two 20-inch cartridge housings, and a case of cartridge filters. Once I had the hardware, I started my usual OCD planning and preparation as you see in these first two drawings.
